Music Curriculum

Instrumental Lesson Curriculum

Due to the nature of instrumental music, we start every concept at the beginning of the year and we continuously build on it throughout the year in every grade level. Lessons encompass all of the musical concepts.

Rhythm

Identify/perform rhythms including but not limited to the whole note, whole rest, quarter note, quarter rest, half note, half rest, eighth note, eighth rest, 16th notes

Quarter 1 through Quarter 4

Tone

Exhibit performance skills in the production of good tone quality and intonation by using proper diaphragmatic breathing and proper embouchure formation

Quarter 1 through Quarter 4

Perform Alone and with Others

Perform appropriate lesson literature and concert band repertoire with proper articulations, dynamics, technique and phrasing to achieve expression of the written score.

Quarter 1 through Quarter 4

Tempo

Execute rhythms in the proper tempo and range of the instrument.

Music Notation

Identify musical terms in regard to tempo, phrasing, dynamics, and articulation.

Sight Reading

Sight-read and perform appropriately graded repertoire.

Scales

Learn scales appropriate to ability level.

Quarter 1 through Quarter 4

Technique

Playing instrument with proper hand position, grip,fingerings, stickings, and techniques specific to the instrument

Care and Maintenance

Learn proper care/maintenance of instrument, including cleaning
